FAQS

How can I purchase your work?

I show and sell my work at Art Gallery on Avalon Beach (Sydney, Australia), online via my gallery, and directly from my studio.

Please contact me to set up a private online viewing or in-person visit.

How much do your pieces cost?

All of my work is quoted in Australian dollars, with prices ranging from Au$395 for smaller pieces (approx 12cm(h) x 8cm(w)) up to Au$2,000 for larger and more intricate work (35cm x 35cm).

If shipping is required, it is calculated separately, and varies by destination.

How do you take payment?

Electronic funds transfer, payID, credit card or cash are accepted. Invoices are payable online or in-person at my studio.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, I ship worldwide*.

For international orders I will quote you freight costs prior to purchase. While international shipping can be pricey, please remember the US$ is much stronger than the AU$, so it might be less than it first appears.

*Unfortunately I cannot ship the Holding Light works – they are too fragile. I have however successfully personally taken work overseas and interstate in both my hand luggage and suitcase, as have my customers. I am happy to discuss with you when you visit in person.

Do you take commissions?

Yes. Please contact me to discuss. Lead times on commissions typically require a two to three-month lead time, sometimes longer, depending on complexity and other commitments.

How do l arrange a studio visit?

Contact me via my contact form so we can arrange a mutually convenient time. I love meeting and getting to know potential clients — both virtually and in-person.

Where is your studio located?

My studio is located in South Coogee, Sydney, NSW, Australia. It’s a short Uber ride from downtown Sydney, or consider taking a bus to gorgeous Coogee Beach and Uber from there. It’s a 5-minute Uber or 25minute walk mostly along the ocean boardwalk from Coogee Beach, but beware of the hill at the end!

Are your pieces functional?

Some are, some aren’t. You'll have to ask me about individual works.

How big are your pieces?

It varies. In my online gallery, size, price and material details are set out.

Do you sell “seconds”?

Yes. I hold an annual open studio event, usually in November, where I sell both new works and a range of heavily discounted “seconds” and test pieces. Please sign up to my mailing list for information on my open studio.

Do you teach?

I currently teach ceramics at Waverley Woollahra Art School in Bondi. My focus here is on teaching foundation techniques and guiding more advanced students to achieve their creative vision. Please go to the school's website for bookings.

From time to time I run workshops and masterclasses. Please contact me to discuss.

Do you make porcelain lighting?

Yes, on commission. Please contact me to discuss.

How long does it take you to make a piece?

I like complexity and meticulous processes, so my work tends to take multiple days, spread over weeks, to make. Nerikomi in particular is very time consuming – it takes me days to colour my clay and create the designs, and that is before I start the tricky part of slicing and piecing the clay together to form vessels and artworks. Patience is an integral part of the process. Then there’s the meticulous cleaning and smoothing of the clay surfaces, controlled drying and multiple firings.

What type of clay do you use?

I use a combination of Australian and imported Cone 6 (1200-1220°C) porcelains.
