Gillian Hodes: Curriculum Vitae
An emerging ceramic artist, Gillian Hodes creates sculptural pieces predominantly in porcelain. She is constantly exploring and testing the limit of the material, creating ever-thinner, lighter artworks, and exploring the intersection between translucency, structural integrity, light and shadow.

 

Education

2015: Bachelor of Fine Arts (Sculpture), National Art School, Sydney NSW

2017: Diploma of Ceramics, Northern Beaches TAFE

Gillian undertakes regular and ongoing study, often with renown international ceramics masters.

1986: Bachelor of Business Science, Majoring in Economics; Marketing Honours, University of Cape Town, South Africa.

 

Teaching

2018 to present: Teaching ceramics to children, teens and adults at Waverley Woollahra Art School and from private studios.

 

Awards and Achievements

  • 2017   Winner – First prize in the Craft NSW Emerging Artist Award 

  • 2017   Graduating Student Award, Northern Beaches TAFE Ceramics

  • 2020   Second Prize in Wallenberg Portrait Competition (portrait bust of Ernie Friedlander, Holocaust survivor.)

  • 2018   Selected as Studio Artist at Australian Design Centre, for the Australian Ceramics Open Studios (ACOS)

  • 2018   Residency: Flinders Island Art Residency, TAS, Australia
